Viscount Envoy 35FV with speakers and bass bin

Driffield Methodist Church, August 2020

Way back in early June 2019 a delegation from Driffield Methodist Church visited Anthony Bogdan Organs to see their choice of Viscount Organ the Envoy 35 FV.

The organ had only been delivered a day or two before so Anthony had not had time ‘to put the computer on it.’

Whilst John Sharman (organist) and his fellow delegates watched, Anthony downloaded new voices into the organ and regulated them to suit.

It was the realistic sound and the flexibility of the voicing which sold the committee on the Viscount Physis system and Anthony’s particular style of 'Harrison like' voicing with smooth reeds and silvery mixtures.

The building was delayed due to an underground stream and drainage culverts being discovered when digging the foundations.

Finally Anthony was summoned to take the cables in time for the first fix. We liaised with site manager Paul Waites as to the cable runs for the speakers and the base bin.

Then came lock down!! Mid July Anthony went over to the new Church to with one of the installation team. Low and behold all the wires were in the correct place. It is the policy of Anthony Bogdan Organs to visit the site with the cables and explain to site staff cable routes. This saves much heart ache later and a black wire going up a new white wall.

Very early August the organ and speakers were delivered to the Church and installed. Anthony went to voice and set the organ on speech although there are chairs and soft furnishings to be delivered so a return visit will have to be made to get the voicing just right.

John Sharman Organist writes

It is often said that the most important stop on an organ is the acoustics of the building in which it is located. Our new building has a reverberation time of around 4 seconds and the new organ, a Viscount Envoy 35-F, makes best use of this acoustic. I do not think we could have chosen better than this traditional English organ.

Our thanks to Anthony Bogdan for his attention to detail. From the initial advise on speaker location through to the voicing of the instrument has provided us with an incredible sound. Although it has yet to be played to accompany hymn singing due to Covid 19 restrictions, all who have heard it have commented on the superb choice of instrument.

Our thanks to all concerned for putting up with the delays in completion of our new church, partly due to Covid. Our order was initiated in July 2019 and the organ installed August 2020.
