St Tydfil, The Old Parish Church.

Merthyr Tydfil

St Tydfil, The Old Parish Church,

Merthyr Tydfil.

There has always been a church on the site were St Tydfil was martyred The present Parish Church of St Tydfil was built in 1868 regrettably the church was closed in 1968 but never made redundant. So two eucharists are allowed there each year, one on St Tydfils day and one the second of November all, Souls Day.

The Church is used as a meeting place, concerts are held in the church and other events are also convened. The Church was given a Viscount Jubileum 235 Organ in 2003 when its owner needed more space in his home, the organ is thought to be about fifteen years old. Even with such a generous acoustic as St Tydfils, internal speakers were not sufficient. A local supplier did fit an external speaker system but it was still lacking. As Anthony Bogdan Organs maintain the Wyvern Organ in St Tydfil's Well Church we were invited to make recommendations as to the way forward in The Old Parish Church and create  real organ sound.

The solution was simple, the console was on the north east side of the church so it was proposed that the speaker system be placed on the pillar on the south east side of the church. Even though the Jubileum is only two channels it was decided to duplicate the two channels into four channels.  Each cabinet has four drivers a total of sixteen on the whole system. The cabinets face east and the sound reflects down the nave thereby giving greater realism.

The sound of  a church organ now fills St Tydfils, which incidentally, is used for the towns funerals of all faiths. A meeting place, a place of sorrows. St Tydfil, even though closed, serves the community. Anthony Bogdan Organs is pleased to be associated with The Parish of Merthyr Tyydfil
