Fleetwood Parish Church
boasts a very fine Binns organ, but an exceptional and very
intermittent fault developed on the instrument. A trumpet like noise
was heard, which sounded for all the world like a cipher, but no
pipes any where on the organ were speaking. As the fault is
intermittent the Organ Builders have as yet been unable to trace the
source of the problem which is suspected to be some split
leatherwork on the wind trunking. The sound is coming deep from the
bowels of the instrument so it will be a costly job to repair.
Mr John Fishwick, organist of the church, is
acutely aware of the demise of the pipe organ in the Fylde Coast.
Both Mr Fishwick and the Parochial Church Council are working
toward the repair and restoration of the Binns organ but what to do
about the forth coming "wedding season"

A temporary digital organ
seemed to be the answer but a hire fees would use up valuable funds
needed for the Binns Organ. Mr Fishwick contacted Anthony Bogdan
Organs and explained the problem. Anthony visited the church and
recommended they purchase a used Allen Organ which was in
stock, there were also two ex-hire Allen Cabinets which could be
cabled in. Intrepid members of the Church ran the speaker cable
under the floor and in the space of two weeks the Allen was ready to
speak. The Binns organ
is still use Sunday by Sunday but when the faulty wind trunking
makes its noise, John Fishwick simply moves to the Allen Organ.
Weddings, Funerals and Sunday Services will not be ruined by the
fault on the Binns Organ and at the excellent price of £2995 for the
Allen and two speaker cabinets the repair of the Binns is a realistic goal.
